"Your booklet is very good! I would have used this when I was homeschooling my children. Tell Me A Story Again is a wonderful tool to encourage student writing. This booklet can open their imagination stores and begin a flow of creativity to stay with them as they mature. Jan's prompts are intelligent and applicable to a variety of contexts without asking rhetorical questions.
I recommend this booklet.”

Carole's [Carole Joy Seid] method is the permission I have been looking for to drop the boxed curriculum, draining worksheets, and burnout of a new year, and simply sit on the couch and read to my children. I feel liberated at the thought of a homeschool centered around a bible, a library card, and a math curriculum, as Carole describes it. Her method puts literature square at the center of the day and beautifully weaves all of the other subjects around it. There are also ample opportunities for work, service and study, relationship building, and even a special role for daddy at the end of the day. I would highly recommend this virtual seminar

I love your second booklet [Tell Me A Story Again]! I can have my kids work on creative writing one day, then spelling (copy work) or presentation skills (recitation) on another day. There is also art work that is so lovely for all of us to work on picture study too! Thank you so much for creating this neat booklet!

My son and I have been working in [the booklet] Tell Me A Story, [and] we are loving it! At first, I was iffy about it; but we started the spring ideas and only did them probably five times before I noticed that it was actually giving him courage on writing down his own ideas. Yesterday, he asked me to take our dog for a walk with his notebook so he could admire the morning and write about it. So, I let him. He came home and said, “Mom, read what I wrote. I learned from you mom and the booklet on how to write.” I read what he wrote, and it was very descriptive and at the end he wrote “The Lord is good!” So, I have to say that this was the best purchase yet! Thank you to both you [Jan of Tell Me A Story] and Carole [Joy Seid]!

Oh yes, I love the Homeschool Made Simple DVD. It's definitely a gem and will be one I'll keep even after my homeschooling days are behind me since I think it will be beneficial for my children as they start having children.

I am delighted to get to share a brand-new resource with all of you! Sweet Jan McGrath, a homeschooling mama and creator of the journaling resource Tell Me A Story, has just released a wonderful new second booklet called Tell Me A Story Again. For those who follow the methods laid out by Carole Joy Seid, you already know that the only writing she recommends for elementary and even junior high is creative journaling, where our kids are free to express through their individual writing voice, without being inhibited by rules and workbooks and “making writing work”. For years, Carole recommended a resource called “From Heart to Page”. That very resource is the one that Jan McGrath recently republished with a new name and look (Tell Me A Story)…and is the same concept on which this NEW resource (Tell Me A Story Again) is based! You AND your kids will love the many creative writing prompts included here, organized by subjects like Family, Friends, Hobbies, and more—PLUS a section full of recitation and copywork ideas! This is a simple booklet, but filled to the brim with great ideas—and could easily spark new journaling ideas for your whole family to continue with, long after you’ve finished these prompts.

I am a veteran writing tutor who has vast experience helping a wide array of individuals with their written assignments. As disparate and varied as my clientele has been, perhaps the one factor that many of them did share was an innate feeling of intimidation and inadequacy about their writing. Many lacked confidences in their abilities as writers, while others desired to write well but failed to recognize that the act of writing could not be attained through instant gratification, that it takes practice and self-discipline, and that it is an ongoing, even a lifelong process. This is why Jan McGrath’s handbook Tell Me a Story is so invaluable. Aimed at parents of young children, her handbook plants a seed of a love for writing in any nascent writer, but it also minimizes any type of inhibiting factors that can manifest in young writers. However, and most importantly, it also empowers “budding writer[s]” to find their own voice and express it with confidence through the written word, thereby circumventing the aforementioned scenario later in life. Both her advice at the beginning and her series of prompts, themed as they are by the season, provide any parents who want to cultivate a love for reading and writing in their own children a wonderful means of incorporating the practice of writing into their children’s lives. The handbook is truly an invaluable resource.

I love the new edition of Tell Me A Story adapted by Jan McGrath. For years, I used the earlier edition, From Heart to Page, with my own children. While homeschooling, we used a gentler approach to writing and language arts which is why I love this booklet. The Tell Me a Story prompts are easy and fun to use. Every morning, we would open up Tell Me a Story, read a prompt and then write in our journals. The prompts are so engaging, I even wrote alongside my children. As a family, we would then share our stories or our writings with each other. For many years, journal writing with the help of Tell Me a Story booklet, was our main writing instruction. We focused on creative writing and narrative writing first before jumping into more formal paragraphs in the upper grades. If you are looking for simple ways to help your reluctant writer or a creative ways to include daily writing in your morning time or lessons, “Tell Me a Story” will be the only resource you will need.

I think Tell Me A Story is a good, easy to use guide! It simplifies what is so often presented in an overly complicated and therefore overwhelming way.
